Been a while

Sun Jan 13, 2008, 4:59 PM
WOW! Last time I posted was in April!! I can tell it was a long time when I saw what I was drinking during my last journal entry... coffee! Now I love coffee but I switched to tea (specifically green) a while ago.

I've been busy freelancing all of 2007. I like freelancing because I can sleep in, but I'm becoming a hermit. I miss having coworkers. I've actually been looking for inhouse work lately. Keeping my eye out for a Character and/or prop 3D artist position around the Seattle area. I've had a few interviews lately but I'm still looking. I'm one of those oddballs that actually like going to interviews. Maybe it's because its an excuse for me to get out of the house, but also like just talking with fellow creators because a lot of the people I talk to end up having much in common with me... I mean we're all geeks, so interviews are easier and more fun when you get to talk about sci-fi, comics, and GAMES.

I like working in 3D, but I really want to grow as a 2D artist My goal this year is to go back and learn the basics, and learn them correctly. I've just been fudging it and it shows in my work. So I'm learning proper anatomy, figure drawing, perspective, and color. I'm currently focusing on anatomy and figure drawing... mainly the head as of now. I'm gathering my information mainly from Bridgeman, Vilppu, and Loomis. I must say, I really LOVE studying from Loomis. He breaks things down and explains them very well. Bridgeman is great too and i like doing studies from his "Constructive Anatomy" book. I'm just getting a lot out of all of Loomis' books. I highly recommend his "Drawing the Head and Hands" and "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth." His other books look good too, I just haven't had the opportunity to study from them yet. The great thing about Loomis is that all his books are free to download. I'd prefer owning the books, but DAMN they're expensive!!!

So that's why I haven't been updating much. I've been doing anatomy studies, figure drawing, life drawing.... nothing that's all too exciting to post and show-off. I'm hoping after a year of hardcore learning (and obviously continued learning afterwards) I'll be prouder of the work I do and actually do it with a bit of competence. Don't worry I'm not taking a break from posting for the year. When I get a little more confident with my anatomy/figures and perspective I'll be doing a lot more sketching of characters and props/vehicles and I'll post the stuff I think looks pretty cool.

To everyone that's added me I wanted to say THANK YOU!

Depends on what the topic is and if I have time. I'd like to, but I think I may actually focus on concept art instead of the 3D. The reason behind this is because I'm trying to up my 2D skills this year (anatomy, gestures, perspective, color theory) so doing concept art would actually fit into my studies :)

Oh and I'd fight for Polycount!

Hey bitch, post more shit!

Hope the freelancin's still treating ya good.

Thanks for stopping by. As for being an ol' magi-nation artist, I wasn't really. I was a known fan-artist on the forums and I was doing some promotional work around the time that the company started falling apart. So I was working my way into being an artist for them but I never managed to get any of my art on the cards because the company disappeared.... sad too. Magi-Nation had a pretty good following, had GB games and an animation series in the works. If only they kept in touch with the community and released their new sets, they could've kept all their fans and business.
:iconsfox8:
Yeah it's sad where Magi-Nation has gone since 2i. I think the animation is still planned for release though! Apparently it's supposed to come out this fall. I've been getting most of my info from here. [link] since that seems to be the only place filled with magi-nation followers right now (and the official site's been a desert for quite a while now). i've been following matt holmberg's site too but he hasn't even mentioned or said anything about returning for the next cards or anything =[ Anyway though, I hope they don't try to lead magi-nation in the wrong direction with this.. the animation already looks subpar and that's just from one picture. hopefully they'll try and get all of the old artists to return. I'd love to see your art on some of the new cards too. =D Be sure to keep us posted if you're not restricted by any contracts or anything haha.
